Annual Privacy and Security Training

Annual privacy and security training helps maintain compliance with HUD HMIS Data Standards and local HMIS governance requirements while fostering trust with clients and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive information. By completing this training each year, HMIS users demonstrate their commitment to protecting client data and supporting a secure and effective homeless response system.

This training reviews the Data Privacy and Security Standards required in the Federal HMIS Standards.  We address the HMIS User and the agency's responsibility related to HMIS Security.  We review Client Rights related to HMIS data entry, explain Data Visibility, and review the HMIS Release of Information.

If you are unable to complete the training by the deadline, your HMIS license will be locked, and you will be required to complete the training prior to gaining access to the system.

  • WHO: All HMIS Users are required to take this training, regardless of when you were licensed
  • WHAT: New England HMIS Annual Privacy and Security Training
  • DUE:  End of business on Wednesday October 7, 2026

Important Notes about the training:

  • All HMIS Users at your agency must complete their own training, quiz, and HMIS User Agreement.
  • We recommend watching the training on ‘full screen’ by expanding the video selection.
  • This video training is 45 minutes long - please set aside enough time to complete the video training, quiz, and User Agreement.
